speedo alterations

I found a coupl pairs of speedo drag suits that I really like the pattern of the material. I would like to have them re sewn into more of a solar style. Looking for a seamstress / tailor that does this kind of work has proven to be more dificult than I would have thought. Any thoughts on how to go about this would be greatly appreciated. Probably doesnt help that I live in the conservative US.

LOL Is it the US is conservative or you are too uptight to walk into a seamstress, seamster or tailor shop and ask? Any professional that has a sewing machine for fine fabrics can make the changes. (many tailors only have machines for heavier fabrics for suits etc) A seamstress that works on women's langerie can alter them for you. I live in the US and have have walked into dress makers shops, tailors etc in several cities and there was no problem and no attitude. But be ready, they will want you to put them on so they can see how they fit and you can describe the desired result. Considering the end result you are looking for, you will probably get your junk touched a time or two during the measuring, marking and fittings.
The best bet is if you live in a large city where there is theater or entertainment, find a costume maker. Costume makers can do damn near anything and never bat an eye at skimpy. I know a couple in Vegas that have taken drag suits and have made two or three suits out of the one suit! The average drag suit is a double layer so there is enough to make 2 bikinis, (Solars) a thong or two and a g-string.
Look in the yellow pages or on line for costume makers, tailors, seamstresses or seamsters (males). Then call and tell them what you are after -- be direct. You have a suit you want cut down. They will say they can or can't on the phone. If they can, take the suit and one that is is like what you want. Don't be shy or uptight. They are the professionals.
I have had several suits made and altered and there is never a problem. They don't really care or make judgement -- that is your job. Good luck -- and enjoy your new suits.
