Counting Laps

Hey guys,

I've been getting back into the pool as much as I can now that I'm back in some warm weather.

I was wondering if there is anything out there that helps you count laps.

I'm always loosing count and I have found that when I'm swimming without counting them in my head I swim better.

If anyone has seen or heard of anything I'd love to hear about it.

Dave

PS - If these guys were at my pool you can guess what I'd be concentrating on.

Two methods.

One: If you're not doing flip turns, use the lane divider as an abacus. Of course that only works if others you are swimming with or in the next lane aren't total tools and screw with the lane divider when they are at the wall resting. I come up with some formula that every 100 yds or meters is one slidable thing in the divider.

Two: Imagine you are on a road trip, or some linear journey. Each hit of the wall (lap) is a milestone in the journey. Example: Start in Boston MA, then you go to Providence RI, New Haven CT, New York City, Trenton NJ, Philadelphia PA, Wilmington DE, Baltimore MD, Washington DC, Richmond VA, etc. etc. (or the Aussie equivalent) It could just be the streets in your neighborhood for that matter. This way your mind is thinking of moving forward in a linear progression. Anything that's sequential like this works and each time you touch the wall, is the next step in the mapped progression of what it is you set out in your mind as the path.

But when there's a hot guy in your lane or the one over, all bets are off.

i swim in a 20 by 40 pool, if i do36 lengths, it takes me around 20 minutes, if i swim at our country club pool up the street, it is so large, probably olympic , it takes me the same time , but only 12 lengths or 6 laps, which is about 3 times the distance. hope that helps count, but i agree when i see good specimens like pictured tough to keep count. having a watch on like a swatch makes it easier to count as long as you remember when you started. dhs ps ready for my swim in my black and blue speedo.
