I think it is a hilarious video, which shows men's thinking towards briefs and probably same goes to speedos.
The word here is "TIGHT".

I don't understand how a baggy boxer short could be a choice when they don't offer anything that the "underwear" should do:
* no support
* wrinkles under the trousers
* not comfortable
* if you go swimming (especially in the sea) - you just might be dragged under and probably risking drowning...

Only use I see: maybe for leisure and sleeping, when generally one will use them as the only "wear", not as underwear.

So, you will not wear something made and tailored for the male anatomy, just because it could be tight and "gay"?

I think that the prime interest should be personal preference and/or comfort. Personally, I wear my speedos when I swim or around my pool. On vacations, I wear the speedos for pool swimming and sometimes sunning but more often I switch over to the tailored board short. They aren't baggie or down to the knees, they are kind of a well designed gym short. (Undergear and Andrew Christian carry nice looking one) I think that hanging loose is much more comfortable than being bound up in lycra. I do like the Aussiebum or old Speedos in 100% nylon. They have a roomy more comfortable spot for my junk.
Underwear, still like the boxers - again, hanging loose is more comfortable and cooler in the desert heat. Of course, if the pants are tight or fitted then I pull out a thong or bikini brief. Panty lines are so tacky.

When I see guys in a swim suit I only look to see if I like the suit (speedo, boxer, square whatever). I make no judgements. However, do to the self promotion of the gays through publications and Pride, the speedo type suit has become quite the symbol of the gay. My niece had seen the Pride parade on TV (parts shown on news) and virtually all the guys were in speedos, square cuts or drag. When the Olympics came on she asked if all those guys were gay. When gay magazines at the news stand generally have a guy in speedos on the cover, when gay events are usually dominated by guys in speedos, what do you expect people to think? A guy in a speedo -- probably gay. After a few weeks in Hawaii I noticed a lot of guys from all over the world in all kinds of suits. Who stood out? The gays in the speedos. Why? Bright pink, super skimpy bikinis on guys giggling with other like attired guys and prancing around trying to get attention. When you portray an image on such a grand scale, you have to expect that people will quickly equate a speedo with gay.

People should never judge based on appearance. I have a friend that is a incredibly wealthy (his house has its own 18 hole golf course, a collection of vintage cars, a horse stable, heliport and two 2500 sq ft guest houses in addition to the main house. He walked into a Mercedes dealer dressed in his horsey clothes. Torn, dirty jeans, western shirt and sweat stained hat. The salesman that was up next saw him coming and headed to the rest room and a saleswoman ended up with him. He told of his needs and looked at the showroom cars. They had a cup of coffee and talked - she mentioned her daughter had learned to ride and he said she should come by and ride sometime. At this point, nothing had been discussed about cars so my friend politely said, "You came in to look at cars, is there anything I can show you?" He said no, he had made up his mind. He proceeded to list 4 vehicles. A Maybach ($220,000) a 550GLK ($145,000) a 550SL ($170,000) and a CLK500 ($160,000) All Mercedes Benz. He asked if they could be delivered. At no point did she question him though she had to wonder with over a half million in cars. He said if she would get the paper work all done and call when it was ready. He then gave her a check for $200,000 as a deposit. He would pay balance on delivery. When she looked at the check she realized he was on the Forbes list of billionaires. The salesman that made the judgment call based on clothing lost out on over $100,000 commission. People judge on preconceived notions set in their heads by the media and previous experience. In this instance: Cowboy=Poor, just as Speedo=Gay.

Wear what you like for whatever reason. It may have consequences due to previous experiences of those seeing you, or how what you are wearing is perceived in the press. Being secure and an individual is not something most aspire to, being part of the crowd is easier. So don't judge based on your own opinions, you may not like boxers but they can't be that bad - millions are sold daily. You don't like them -OK, but don't say those that don't are stupid. Especially if you don't like being judged about your speedo.

I couldn't agree more with you. Actually, what you talk about in your story is prejudices.

So, maybe I didn't express myself properly in my post.
What I meant is that there are millions of guy, who will feel uncomfortable even entering a store to buy briefs or bikini briefs, just because it is gay-ish.

And they will stick with lose boxers - no matter of the situation, even when they go to the gym. Personally, I wouldn't agree loose boxers is the best choice for gym. They will say briefs are tight - even when it means - yeah they are really comfortable for the activities I have to do now... and so on.

Maybe I was too strong on the "NO loose boxers" statement, which lead you to you conclusions. I too have some boxers and I do wear them when I think it is suitable or needed - the same way as you said you would wear a thong or a bikini brief.

So, I think we're at the same page, what is most important is that I would buy and wear anything that I think I need to wear or enjoy wearing it - without subjugating myself to any prejudices if it is gay-ish or not. I know the others will do the prejudices for me - but that's life. And as you described the "pride" situation - that is how it is.

But you see the reaction in the video was: "Ooooh, my gosh! Briefs? Terrible, skimpy, small? Will they cover everything?" etc. etc.

I think that it is a bit exaggerated? It was pair of briefs, not a skimpy, erotic thong for special occasions. Of course they will cover everything. Millions of them are sold every day to very straight and gay men over the world. They were designed to cover and to be worn, the same way as the boxer shorts were.

And I do not point the finger towards the guy in this certain video. No. It is just a general perception in a lot of guys. And that is prejudices! And that is how they judge a pair of underwear even without trying it, just because it is "gay" labeled!

So, again - I would say - we are talking about the same thing from different perspectives or just because we have a bit different personal preferences.

when I hear the "oh its to skimpy" "its so small - will it cover me" what I am actually hearing is "do I have enough to fill it? Is my body good enough? What will people say?" Body insecurity is the biggest insecurity with both men and women. With men, its equipment size when on display in something like a speedo. However have you ever noticed that the guy who drops is board shorts and jumps around nude will be the first to say "I can't wear that - you can see everything"
