Hey Everyone- So I just went through my entire collection again after I finally received my New Years Aussibum order... turns out I now have 40 suits between briefs, jammers, square cuts, drag suits, etc!
Anyway on some of my older nike briefs primarily, and a speedo jammer, I noticed that there feels like there's plastic pieces in the drawstring hem and if I run the drawstring around I can get small pieces come out with the string. Through their lives, I've been pretty methodical about rinsing all my suits in fresh water after a chlorine or salt water exposure and then hanging up to air dry.
Has anyone else experienced this? Any idea what to do about it? The suits are otherwise in pretty good condition and I want to work some of them back into my lap swimming rotation.

Aging elastic in suits?

Re: Aging elastic in suits?
Yup. I have 'lost' a few suits due to the elastic drying out. It happens. If they are too bad and mis-shapen, I get creative with scissors and have some fun with them, then buy some new suits.
Check My Collection in Photos ... always adding new pictures! Fletch.
Re: Aging elastic in suits?
I think it's caused by heat, because it happened to a suit that had been left on the dashboard of my car for a few hot days in the sun. It was fine before. Afterwards the cord was hard and kind of fused to the fabric. I was able to get it out and replaced it with a shoestring.
Re: Aging elastic in suits?
Glad I'm not the only one at least- the rest of the suits are in good condition and I was able to pull the drawstring free- i'll just have to try to get the rest of the bits out before I hit the pool in them again.
It could be somewhat heat related- they've spent some days in a hot car, but so have other suits of mine that are fine. Oh well.
