I've noticed that a big trend is happening right now in athletic fashion where guys wear really long shorts over tights. Have guys really become that self conscious about showing skin or a bulge?

Yeah, I've been thinking that myself. This short's thing is really getting weird.

It is nuts! Are guys so embarrassed by their bodies? Are other people commenting on the fact that they are wearing something that shows their body?
I do not usually wear running tights but do wear cycle shorts or cycle tights and go into shops or coffee stops when out for a ride. If I am driving to go for a ride I will just wear my cycle clothes and do not wear anything on top of them. If I need to fill the car with fuel or go into a shop, I do that. So far I have not had any comments or disapproving looks, admittedly I am an older guy who perhaps has more of an air of confidence and `dont you dare say anything' look!!!

It is pretty silly. If I'm wearing tights I'm not wearing shorts over them. Performance tights especially have been designed more to minimize rather than enhance your bulge so if anything I feel self conscious wearing them because they can make me look smaller!

The only advantage of shorts over tights is having pockets, a problem I think about every time I wear them as I'm a person who checks his pockets every time he leaves a room.

Sometimes shorts over tights are just a practical alternative. Here in the US Pacific Northwest, it's fairly standard hiking and climbing attire to wear long underwear under a pair of shorts when it's too cold for shorts alone. Long underwear by itself just feels weird, although I've had climbing friends who thought it was OK and wore just that. But for flatland or gym exercise there's no need for the tights.
