Gym buddy

Post by SwimR » Thu Feb 11, 2016 4:09 am

So I recently moved to the south Denver area and could use a gym buddy. I would like to get back into speedo shape and start swimming again, but working overnights in a Waffle House kitchen leaves me with little drive to work out. If anyone is in the area and is willing to help push me at the gym I could really use the motivation and the chance to meet some new people!

Rob,

I don't live in the Denver area, but I wish I did, so I could help you out. I have never worked nights before, so it might be a bit different than working days. But I know for me, on work days, I have to go to the gym before I go home after work. Once I am home it is just too hard to get out again to get to the gym. (On weekends, I can usually get up early and hit the pool, but start work too early during the week to do that.) Maybe at the end of your shift you can get some coffee and a healthy energy filled snack. Head to the gym, take a shower, then workout. Then take a shower again, go home, and sleep. You will feel great. Plus, when you start to see the benefits of your workouts, your motivation should go up. And who knows, maybe you will meet someone at the gym on a similar schedule as you who can become your workout buddy. You can do it!

Thanks man! That was my plan, heading to the gym around 7 or 8 am when I get off work. I just know how my motivation usually goes. I'll go for a week then "something" will come up and I won't go back for a month. :-P I'll give it a try though. Hopefully I find someone to keep me motivated/kick my ass into shape. :-D

I always drink some pre-workout containing small amount of caffeine and creatine. I find that helpful. Sometimes a small sip of coffee too. Approx 45min before workout.

You have a bunch of guys on this forum willing to motivate you or kick your butt into shape (at least verbally). You should consider making a commitment to post regular pics of your progress (or lack thereof). That way you will have some accountability built in and maybe an extra sense of urgency to get to the gym. You're just a young guy, right? Don't waste these years being out of shape! Now quit making excuses, get your butt to the gym, start eating healthy, and get active in the great outdoors of Colorado. And if you can, you might want to look for a day job, far away from waffles, sausage, bacon, eggs, greasy potatoes, biscuits and gravy...and, oh yeah, silly paper hats.

How about some fitness regime that does not involve the gym - cycle or run to and from work, or outdoor fitness trails?

Looks like I'll be spending the next day or so looking into getting a gym membership. Posting progress (or lack there of) sounds like a good idea. I'd love to avoid the membership, but I have absolutely zero motivation to go outside when it's cold and/or windy out/ which is about half the winter. As for a waffle free job, that's the plan, but I can't pass on the benefits and pay until I find something better. I am working on finding a tech job with a 9-5 schedule. That would be awesome!!!

Expect a follow-up within the next week with my starting weight, some pics, and my schedule. I have a free session with a trainer and 5 free days at the gym to start things out (met a trainer out and about two days ago). Thanks for the motivation everyone!!! I appreciate it!
