Board shorts and underwear

Post by Scottiebum » Wed Aug 05, 2015 2:07 am

While on holiday I was amazed at the number of (mainly young) guys wearing their underwear under their boardshorts in the pool.
Do not like the hygiene implications but how uncomfortable! Compare a speedo wearer slipping through the water and someone in cotton boxers, below the knee boardshorts with lining and pockets trying to swim!

I can't imagine sitting around in wet underwear. Because there are no speedo wearers where I live, I do wear board shorts over speedos. It is nearly impossible to find board shorts without that idiotic mesh lining. Even as a kid, I hated that mesh lining. In those days, you would never wear underwear under a swim suit. Sitting around in a suit like that was so uncomfortable. I can't imagine why any adult would want a suit like that.

Scottie,

When I was at Kip's place last winter (Colorado), I couldn't believe the number of guys that would wear underwear (normally boxers) under their dork shorts in the hottub.

I suppose it explains a little bit why people have been surprised that I ALWAYS wear speedos when I wear board shots. I couldn't imagine wearing underwear in a hottub - gross and completely uncomfortable. And they would never dry!!!

Weird.

Unfortunately guys now seam to have been shamed, party due to female pear pressure/opinions, that anything to do with the male parts is wrong and vulgar.

Hence why they feel the need to wear their underwear under the board shorts, as once the shorts become wet they will cling leaving nothing to the imagination. They're is also the possibility that once the board shorts become wet and heavy they they will also slip off.

The male ego is (often) fragile. The male brain is (often) stupid. Combined, the male will do stupid things to protect his ego.

He fears being laughed at for wearing something like a speedo. So he over-compensates the other direction. Until people start laughing at him for wearing underwear with boardies, he will not see reason to change from this "safe" approach.

Comfort and function are irrelevant to the ego!

This trend is sort of silly ... like lots of others. Although it does look cute on some guys for a while (like 30 seconds), I agree, it's form over function. I ALWAYS have a Speedo on under my yes, board shorts (I do wear them), swimsuit (short but very appropriate), running shorts (preferred at the beach over board shorts), and wetsuit.

I like to be comfortable, and not soaking wet. Also, I can slip out of whatever I'm wearing, when I want/need to, enjoy my Speedo, then go back. Why do we know that the rest of the world doesn't?

Board shorts and underwear

When I was a kid and wore boardshorts, my parents told me I didn't need to wear underwear under them. Recently my dad says he wears underwear under boardshorts to keep everything in place. You guys are right, it's a combination of peer pressure of being "modest". Not seeing a penis outline. Plus most guys go for comfort and the only acceptable way to achieve this is to wear underwear under their boardshorts. They don't want to be seen differently when changing among their friends in pool locker rooms or at home.

I remember back in high school we had to change in the locker room for gym class. At the time I had bought these men's bikini underwear from Wallmart. This was before I discovered underwear shopping online. My mom was worried I would get bullied or made fun of if I changed in the locker room while wearing the men's bikini style underwear so I had to wear regular brief or boxers which I really didn't like. Social acceptance plays a big role in the physiology of guys choosing to wear speedos or anything different from their peers.
