I'm embarrassed to say that I never really had a routine. I would just go and swim as best I could. I know when was going a lot I could swim a good 30 mins before getting really tired. I just need to learn some routines. The pool at my gym is a 50m lap pool I believe. I really need to get better at swimming, I feel I am a rather weak swimmer.

I only started going to the gym in January. I had never joined a gym or anything before, but I realized over the past few years I need to do something to stay in shape while waiting for whenever the surf warms up enough to go back. I don't have any training, and all my swimming is done with my head above water, so keep that in mind. In a 25 meter (I think) pool, my workout is only about 30 minutes, and I do the following routine times 3:
100 m breaststroke (no kick)
100 m freestyle (no kick)
100 m float on back, kicking only (backstroke without using arms)

I went body boarding Saturday for the first time in 6 months for 4 hours and it sure paid off.

Swam today for 25 minutes. Second time at the High School fitness center I just joined. 25 meter pool.

I just worked my upper body the day before, so I was a little sore going in and didn't swim as long as my first visit. That one was 45+ minutes.

I'm terrible at counting my laps. I'd love to get a fitness tracker to track my swims and my bike ride to the pool.

I DID get to wear my awesome new Arena suit though! Walking toward the showers, a guy coming out had a hard time not looking. The look on his face was hilarious! (Oh my god don't look dont look dont FUCK!..)

To be fair, it IS hard not to notice

What kind of arena suit do you have? I bought one a while back and I love the brand.

I'd start by just swimming laps, focusing on technique and being able to do it without stopping.

This will hopefully reestablish your breathing, stroke rhythm and catch.

Build up to about 1000m and then start getting into sets etc

I will give that a try Sam. I definitely need to set a day and go, I'm tired of putting it off.

I haven't made it to the pool in a little over a week because of work travel. However, I go three days a week to a 25 yard pool. My workout varies, but I always start with a 500 yd freestyle for a warm up and try to get through an additional 2000 yards after that. I'll often isolate upper body with a pull buoy or legs with a kick board and fins.

For working out, I have two speedo solars, 1 navy blue, one black, and a speedo 1" shoreline suit with grey stripes. I've also got a blue adidas suit with the three white stripes on each side, and a blue and yellow japanese style arena suit.... and I'm always looking to add to the collection.

Going into the holiday season, I thought to give this post a gentle *BUMP* , nudge or just a shove to get it in front of you....

A lot of us have started or want to start some sort of workout routine here. During the holidays, it is easy to become a statistic of giving up or trying to start a new workout after the new year....

Personally, it has always been disastrous for me to go 'no hold backs' during the holidays with the thought that I can make up for it in January & February. This holiday season I have decided to try and get ahead of it all. I plan to focus on eating right and in moderation, keeping alcohol (& cheese) intake in check (both crucial staples to an upper Midwesterner's diet and needed in order to make it through the brutal winters) and of course, keeping up with my workout routine.

Here is my routine for the past 8 months at the pool.

200m- warm up
400m- FS
400m- Br
400m- FS
400m- Br
200m- cool down

I'm planning a 10% increase in distance with a more strict pyramid in speed in hopes of holding back any Yuletide cheer I plan to indulge ...

How about you guys? Have you put any thoughts into it? Plans? Ideas? Starting up? (or no offence taken with a - bah humbug!)

You guys do so much! I barely started about a month ago doing just random lanes until I got tired. Barely yesterday I managed 40x25 for 1000 m total. I think it's just a start for me. Rome wasn't build in a day, lol.

I was being too shy and wore my solar briefs under my jammers. I'll eventually graduate to just speedos.

Don`t worry you are not alone! My pool routine sounds much like yours. But you MUST wear only speedos!!!
Good luck with the training and shedding the jammers!

Wore my Aussiebums to the beach yesterday morning, but the surf was way too rough for swimming.

It has taken me a couple years of inconsistent start/stop, and even investing in some private swim lessons with the coach at the local gym, but finally I am able to swim a mile comfortably 2-4 times per week. I still seem to be the slowest person in the pool, but oh so gradually I am getting a little faster. It's silly that being slow somehow makes me feel more awkward about wearing my Sporti Euro, as if only "real" or "good" swimmers should wear briefs. But I'm overcoming that too...

Not.
At.
All.

I had a 30-day gym pass that I would use before signing up. It expired about two weeks ago and I just don't have the time with finals and all. I do intend to go back and set everything up. Last I went I did 1250 yards. I wasn't even worn out, but I was bored by the last lap.

I've made it a goal of mine to tone up, bulk up, and slim down so I wear a speedo confidently to a beach next summer. A gay friendly beach at least.

I swim one mile - 16 laps in a 50 meter pool at Wilson Aquatic in Washington, DC 5 times a week. I wear 1 inch Speedo solars, although I have a new AussieBum bkini, white and black stripes, that I wear as of this week. Love swimming my laps. I had to take a month off and it took a while to return to my speed of 35 minutes per mile. I am 55.
