Hi!
Hi! New to the forum. I am hesitant to share a ton, but will try my best.
I will be 40 next year. I am trying to get myself in better physical shape after growing up not exercising or eating properly. I am a few years into the lifestyle change - I workout 2 times/week with a trainer and dance 1 time/week. I started trying to learn how to swim about a year ago. (I am making progress as a adult non-swimmer, but it is hard to relax.) People tell me they see results, but I do not see anything. As of today, I am 5'9" and 167.4 pounds.
I am looking to be speedo ready (can't help the vanity - ha ha) and to be able to do laps in a speedo. If I can actually become a proficient swimmer, I would like to (SAFELY) push the limits a bit with underwater action like being trapped momentarily. Or, if above the water, it would be fun to be tickled in a speedo.
Looking forward to participating in the forum!

Welcome to to group! As for weight loss, try no carbs! Amazing fast. Then you’ll need to cut fat out. Meats, cheese, etc. it’s quick.90210njshore wrote:Thank you - trying to transform is not easy at all.

Nah. I just wanted a East Coast/West Coast theme. Can't afford the 90210!
I have minimized carbs and dropped about 15 pounds in 3 months. I am generally eating protein and veggies and my only vice is milk. I cannot cut out much more at this point - I do not find my current diet enjoyable as is and worried I may fall off the wagon.

Keep it up, although you look good now. I'm about 5'7.5" and about 162, but I also have a few more years on you. I know it's tough to lose weight as you get older, and tylry get the body we used to have, and I probably won't, but that doesn't keep me from trying.

I totally get it. I never had the "body" to start off with; I accept responsibility for it. I will keep fighting for it even though progress is SLOW. Hi, and welcome! And good job on continuing your new fitness and swimming lifestyle. Regarding the "underwater action" that you might someday experiment with, perhaps the idea of momentarily being trapped underwater (while wearing a speedo of course!) is a fetish of yours, and if so, then ok. But if you become a really good swimmer and very comfortable in the water, I highly encourage you to consider underwater swimming while holding your breath, and even deeper breath hold diving, both aspects of what is called Freediving. I definitely want to become comfortable in the water and be able to move like an expert before I try anything. (I may enjoy reading underwater fiction, but real life drowning is not my thing. HA HA.) This is the part that is taking time since I need to continue working on loosening up. (Funny - my trainer says I need to tense up on land and tuck in the gut slightly and not be so loose. My swim instructor wants me to loosen up completely in the water and not be tense.) I suspect this is the reason why I cannot sustain a tread for long periods of time. Also, there are times where my legs (usually a calf muscle, but sometimes a hamstring) cramp.
I also need to work on my breathing. When I do the freestyle or breaststroke (the latter of which I seem to add some extra dolphin kick before starting the motion), I am able to get a breath, but it never feels like enough. I eventually need to stop to breath, but I am nowhere near winded and can restart right away.
