Re: How Old Were You?
I was 13, summer of 1987. I saw some boys around my age wearing speedos at a popular swimming hole in a river near my family's vacation place in the White Mountains of New Hampshire and thought "I like that". Even though I had seen them before as a kid at our local country club, the beach on the lak...

Re: What was your first experience with a speedo?
In the summer of 1987 or 1988 when I was 13 or 14, my family rented a house for a full season in Franconia, New Hampshire that backed up to a meandering river with a sandy bottom (unusual, since most rivers up there are rocky and unnavigable) called the Ham Branch. We had the house for the summer, b...

Re: Massachusetts Speedo-friendly Beach?
Not beaches, but the Provincetown Inn and Boatslip pools in Provincetown are speedo meccas. Also, in Boston, the rooftop pool at the Colonnade Hotel on Huntington Ave opposite the Prudential Center can be sometimes, but it can be hit or miss. There used to be the "Gay Beach" section of the Charles R...

Re: Old Orchard Beach
Not sure about Old Orchard Beach, though it is convenient if you're going by Amtrak, but just south of there is Ogunquit Beach, which has a huge speedo scene. OOB is still more or less the French-Canadian riviera, and had a reputation in the eighties and nineties for being speedo central, but I'm no...

Re: Key West?
Oh, it was an awesome trip. I ended up staying at the New Orleans House with a friend, so spent some time there. The pool scene was a little dead but I did manage to make it to the Island House a couple of times to lay out in the sun (and ended up mistakenly walking through the bathhouse in in my sp...

Re: Key West?
Thanks for the tips everyone! I'm heading to Logan International Airport on this miserable day (weather wise) here in Boston to catch my flight to Florida. A bunch of friends of mine were there last week for a birthday trip and stayed at the same places this group of friends and I will be staying, a...

Key West?
I'm booked to go to Key West from April 16-20 with some friends. We're staying in two groups, at the Island House and at the Chelsea House. I know one is clothing optional (not my cup of tea, nor most of my friends'), and the other isn't. Does anyone have any suggestions as where to hang out, beach/...

Re: Underwear under swimwear?
One should never ever wear underwear under board or other swim shorts, etc. into a pool for sanitary reasons. That's the whole reason speedos are required swimwear at pools in many places: because they are meant only to be swum in and there's less chance of cross contamination because people tend no...

I think it depends on your build, if your'e slim or skinny, 1" looks good, if you're more built or wider framed, 3+" looks good.

You've clearly never read John Updike's short story "A&P"blueflinch wrote: ↑Fri Feb 09, 2018 3:24 pmContext is everything. What you can do in a beach town is probably very different from what you can do in a major city.

Re: Most comfortable suit
I'll second the HOM briefs. I'm not so into micro cuts myself, but I have a HOM 2.5" suit that wears very well. My second to that are probably Diesel or Puma briefs.

Re: When did speedos come on your radar
In the early 1980s (when speedos were regular swimwear for about 30% of American males of all ages across the spectrum) my family belonged to a swim and tennis club in suburban Boston, where they were fairly common. I was probably 10 or so, and wasn't too keen at all on them, and was afraid that som...

Re: American Eagle, late 80s or early 90s
I think I found one like it, it was by Eddie Bauer, not American Eagle. Mine was similar to this one, but I think it had more pink and green in it, I wish I knew what happened to it. Unfortunately this one is probably not quite my size, but I'll contact the seller to see if they have any more. The s...

Re: American Eagle, late 80s or early 90s
I remember the place in Copley Place. It was on the upper level to the right, if walking towards the Prudential Center, right? The old Lafayette Place Mall in Downtown Crossing had a store like that too in 1990 -I remember going there with some German students who were in an exchange group from our ...

American Eagle, late 80s or early 90s
In the late 1980s or early 90s, when I was in my mid to late teens, American Eagle (or maybe some other similar mall store) had a decent selection of swim briefs. Some were displayed on hangers, others sold in boxes, sort of like underwear. I had a floral print one for a few years and remember it ha...

I think you and I go to the same pool. I have noticed the same thing (though I have been away for the past two weeks due to a persistent cold). I think a lot of BU Medical and Dental School students swim there, not to mention LANES Swim Team in the early evenings (I rarely see any of them there outs...
